THREE AND OUT
The top three storylines, news, notes and milestones from the week that was in high school football.

Top-ranked Gorman grits one out
In a nationally televised thriller, current No. 1 Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas) outlasted preseason No. 1 and now No. 14-ranked St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.), 25-24, in triple overtime. The top-ranked Gaels converted a two-point conversion following an Aquinas encroachment penalty to secure their 45th consecutive victory and fifth this season against a team that has been nationally or regionally ranked.

No. 3 DeMatha stuffs No. 15 St. John’s
St. John’s employed the same strategy as Bishop Gorman in its Washington Catholic Athletic Association showdown against No. 3 DeMatha – with opposite results. The Cadets went for two following a DeMatha penalty but fell short on the attempt, allowing DeMatha to hold on to a 14-13 win. St. John’s is now unbeaten against the Stags since 1994.

For the record
Regionally ranked Kimberly set a new Wisconsin record with its 49th consecutive win. The Papermakers earned the milestone with a 45-14 blowout of Appleton West. Kimberly’s winning streak is the second longest among 11-man teams and third-best overall. … Taeton Weink of Stewart County (Dover) set the Tennessee single-game rushing record. The senior ran for 572 yards on 37 carries in a 48-41 win over East Hickman (Lyles). Weink topped the previous record by nearly 70 yards. … Jacob Frazier of Magnolia tied the Texas single-game record for touchdown passes. Frazier had 10 scoring strikes in a 75-54 win against Tomball.

About the PrepNation National Prep Poll
The PrepNation National Prep Poll is a continuation of World Feature Syndicate’s National Prep Poll, which was published and distributed to the Associated Press and other news organizations from 1987 to 2015.

The National Prep Poll is second only to the USA Today Super 25 as the longest continually published weekly high school rankings. While a product of World Features Syndicate (1987-2015), the National Prep Poll was the only high school poll distributed to newspapers and websites around the United States by the Associated Press.

Before authoring rankings for Student Sports and ESPN, National High School Sports Hall of Fame journalist Doug Huff compiled the National Prep Poll rankings from 1987 until 1999. Current author Jamie DeMoney has compiled the poll since the start of the 1999 basketball season to the present.

Among the criteria used in the weekly compilation of the National Prep Poll rankings are strength of schedule, the ability to accomplish the ultimate goal on a team's schedule (i.e. winning a championship), impact players and performers, a team's coaching and recent tradition.
