FEATS OF THE WEEK: Monessen, Pa., upset Clairton, Pa., 42-24, ending the Bears’ state-record 66-game winning streak. The streak began in 2009 with, ironically, a 46-0 shutout of Monessen. The nation’s longest current winning streak for 11-man teams is now shared by Iowa City, Iowa, Regina and Ithaca, Mich., with 46 apiece. Alamo, Nev., Pahranagat, which plays at the 8-man level, owns the top overall streak with 61 in a row. ... No. 22 Miramar, Fla., earned a spot in the Top 25 after edging regionally-ranked Fort Lauderdale, Fla., St. Thomas Aquinas, 22-20. It is the third straight season that Miramar has beaten St. Thomas Aquinas and the second time it’s happened when the Raiders were in the Top 3 of the national rankings. ... Senior running back Royce Freeman of Imperial (Calif.) ran for 256 yards and five touchdowns in a 48-21 win over Chula Vista, Calif., Mater Dei Catholic. Freeman (committed to Oregon) has 1,121 rushing yards and 19 touchdowns in only four games this season. ... Preseason No. 1 Miami, Central posted an impressive 50-21 road win against regionally-ranked and two-time Prep Poll champion Ramsey, N.J., Don Bosco. The now-No. 3 Rockets’ superstar running back duo of Dalvin Cook (Florida) and Joseph Yearby (Miami) combined for 283 rushing yards and five touchdowns.

About the National Prep Poll: Compiled weekly weekly since 1987 and distributed by World Features Syndicate and the Associated Press, the National Prep Poll is the nation's second oldest weekly high school sports rankings. Doug Huff compiled the rankings from 1987 until 1999. Jamie DeMoney has compiled the poll since the start of the 1999 basketball season to the present.

The National Prep Poll is the only high school poll distributed to newspapers and websites around the United States by the Associated Press national wire service.

Among the criteria used in the weekly compilation of the National Prep Poll rankings are strength of schedule, the ability to accomplish the ultimate goal on a team's schedule (i.e. winning a championship), impact players and performers, a team's coaching and recent tradition.

About PrepNation.com: PrepNation.com was originally launched August 1, 2001 by Jamie DeMoney for the purpose of creating a permanent online home for the National Prep Poll football and boys basketball rankings.
