since between the No. 1 and No. 2 teams in the National Prep Poll since 2009,
Miami, Booker T. Washington knocked off then top-ranked Miami, Central, 28-17. Senior
quarterback Treon Harris (committed to Florida St.) led the way for the now-No.
1 Tornadoes with 222 combined passing and rushing yards and three touchdowns. Fort
Lauderdale, Fla., St. Thomas Aquinas beat Duncan, S.C., Byrnes, 42-34, in the last
No. 1-versus-No. 2 showdown in 2009. ... Regionally-ranked Duncan, S.C., Byrnes
senior quarterback Shuler Bentley (Old Dominion) threw a state-record nine
touchdown passes and also rushed for a score in an 82-49 win over Woodruff. ...
Senior quarterback Brian Johnson (uncommitted) from Villa Park, Ill.,
Willowbrook eclipsed a single-game state record with 675 passing yards in a
62-49 win against LaGrange, Ill., Lyons. ... Senior running back Tre Watson
exploded for 475 yards and seven touchdowns to lift No. 11 Corona, Calif.,
Centennial to a 69-55 win against Ventura, Calif., St. Bonaventure. The
California recruit had 274 rushing yards and scored five times in a 60-42
defeat of Henderson, Nev., Liberty the week before. ... After going 0-10 with
only 48 points scored in its inaugural season last year, Mansfield, Texas,
Lakeside earned its first-ever victory with a wild 77-75 overtime triumph
against Burleson, Texas, Centennial. ... For the second straight week, all 10
schools in the Southeast region are represented in this week’s Top 25 rankings.
