FEATS OF THE WEEK: In its first game with
Justin Alumbaugh as head coach, No. 5 Concord, Calif., De La Salle beat Concord,
Calif., Clayton Valley, 34-14. Alumbaugh, a former De La Salle player and
assistant coach since 1998, was promoted in January. He has enormous shoes to
fill left behind by Bob Ladouceur, who remains on staff coaching offensive and
defensive linemen. Among Ladouceur’s unprecedented accomplishments in a 24-year
tenure as Spartans head coach: Six National Prep Poll titles, 28 North Coast
Section championships and five titles in the seven-year history of California’s
state championships, a national-record 151-game winning streak, and an overall
record of 399-25-3. ... No. 10 Hoover, Ala., opened with a 24-10 win against
then-No. 25 Moultrie, Ga., Colquitt County, the team whose coach, Rush Propst,
led Hoover to five state championships between 2000-2005. Dating back to last
season, it was the 16th straight win for Hoover -- all by at least
13 points. ... Davidson, N.C., Davidson Day quarterback Will Grier (a Florida
recruit) threw seven touchdowns while playing only in the first half of his
team’s 68-0 rout of Raleigh, N.C., North Raleigh Christian. ... In what will be
the first and last meeting between two legendary coaches, regionally-ranked
Beverly Hills, Mich., Brother Rice knocked Cleveland, St. Ignatius out of the
poll with a 29-20 win in the season-opener for both teams. It was the 417th
career win for Brother Rice coach Al Fracassa, 80, who plans to retire at
season’s end. St. Ignatius coach Chuck Kyle has 301 career wins and is one of
only six coaches to win multiple National Prep Poll titles (1993, ’95).

About the National Prep Poll: Compiled weekly weekly since 1987 and distributed by World Features Syndicate and the Associated Press, the National Prep Poll is the nation's second oldest weekly high school sports rankings. Doug Huff compiled the rankings from 1987 until 1999. Jamie DeMoney has compiled the poll since the start of the 1999 basketball season to the present.
The National Prep Poll is the only high school poll distributed to newspapers and websites around the United States by the Associated Press national wire service.
Among the criteria used in the weekly compilation of the National Prep Poll rankings are strength of schedule, the ability to accomplish the ultimate goal on a team's schedule (i.e. winning a championship), impact players and performers, a team's coaching and recent tradition.
About PrepNation.com: PrepNation.com was originally launched August 1, 2001 by Jamie DeMoney for the purpose of creating a permanent online home for the National Prep Poll football and boys basketball rankings.
