FEATS
OF THE WEEK: Only two teams have been ranked No. 1 in the national
Top 25 this season. Top-ranked Montverde, Fla., Montverde Academy
removed any lingering doubt about which squad deserves the top spot.
In an ESPN2-televised matchup at the Cancer Research Classic in
Wheeling, W.Va., Montverde Academy hammered preseason No. 1 (and now
regionally ranked) Chicago, Simeon, 82-53. Recent Kentucky commit
Dakari Johnson led Montverde with 18 points and 15 rebounds. It was
the Eagles' fourth win this season against a current or former Top 25
opponent. ... In other Cancer Research Classic action, first-year
program No. 13 Dallas, Prime Prep earned its first appearance in the
Prep Poll with a convincing 59-46 win against No. 14 Huntington,
W.Va., Huntington Prep. Highly touted underclassmen Emmanuel Mudiay
and Elijah Thomas each scored 18 points for Prime Prep. ... A 57-52
win over regionally ranked Minneapolis, De La Salle at the
Timberwolves Shootout at Target Center propelled No. 25 Overland
Park, Kan., Blue Valley Northwest into the national poll. Junior
guard Clayton Custer (Iowa St.) scored 26 for the Huskies, who picked
up the 500th
career win for coach Ed Fritz. De La Salle got 29 points and 15
rebounds from junior big man Reid Travis in a losing effort. ... No.
8 Chicago, Young crushed regionally ranked Arlington, Va., Bishop
O'Connell, 58-37, for the championship of the Beach Ball Classic in
Myrtle Beach, S.C. Standout junior Paul White, who was named
tournament MVP, had 14 points and seven rebounds.

NOTE: This is the 26th consecutive season for World Features Syndicate's National Prep Poll. It is the 13th straight year the National Prep Poll has been compiled by Jamie DeMoney.
About the National Prep Poll: Compiled weekly weekly since 1987 and distributed by World Features Syndicate and the Associated Press, the National Prep Poll is the nation's second oldest weekly high school sports rankings. Doug Huff compiled the rankings from 1987 until 1999. Jamie DeMoney has compiled the poll since the start of the 1999 basketball season to the present.
The National Prep Poll is the only high school poll distributed to newspapers and Web sites around the United States by the Associated Press national wire service.
Among the criteria used in the weekly compilation of the National Prep Poll rankings are strength of schedule, the ability to accomplish the ultimate goal on a team's schedule (i.e. winning a championship), impact players and performers, a team's coaching and recent tradition.
About PrepNation.com: PrepNation.com was originally launched August 1, 2001 by Jamie DeMoney for the purpose of creating a permanent online home for the National Prep Poll football and boys basketball rankings.
