     FEATS OF THE WEEK: In his first varsity start, Folsom, Calif., sophomore Jake Browning passed for 689 yards and 10 touchdowns in a 68-28 rout of Roseville, Wood Creek. According to Cal-Hi Sports, the performance tied a state record but was well short of the national-record 15 touchdown passes thrown by Arthur Smith of Cozad, Neb., during a 201-7 drubbing of Overton in 1921. ... Future Ohio St. quarterback Jalin Marshall of Middletown, Ohio, ran for 312 rushing yards and three touchdowns in a 43-39 loss to regionally ranked Cincinnati, St. Xavier. The teams combined for 718 rushing yards. ... Junior Jalen Hurd of Hendersonville, Tenn., Beech totaled 451 rushing yards and five touchdowns in his team’s 55-41 win against Paris, Henry County. ... Elbert Jacob of Alexandria, Ky., Brossart had 430 rushing yards and five scores in a 42-20 rout of Franklin, Ohio, Middletown Christian. ... In a season-opening battle of defending state champions, No. 22 Detroit, Cass Tech (Division 1) defeated Bloomfield Hills, Brother Rice (Division 2), 25-18, at the Detroit Sports Commission Prep Kickoff Classic. ... Burnside, Iowa, Southeast Webster-Grand edged Woodward, Woodward Academy, 16-13, to improve its record to 2-0. It’s a tremendous start for a team that entered the season mired in a 53-game losing streak.
