It was the Shamrocks’ 26th straight win and ninth defeat of an out-of-state opponent since 2010. ... Tennessee recruit Riley Ferguson threw three touchdown passes to lead No. 20 Matthews, N.C., Butler to a 27-6 win against Charlotte, Mallard Creek. ... Senior Corn Elder (uncommitted) ran for 230 yards and four touchdowns to help No. 23 Nashville, Tenn., Ensworth beat upset-minded Memphis, Tenn., Memphis University, 35-28. ... Coach Jerry Pezzetti earned his 300th victory at regionally ranked Ankeny, Iowa. The Hawks routed Marshalltown, 49-14. Pezzetti is 300-130-1 at Ankeny and has 358 wins overall in 50 seasons. Quarterback Joel Lanning (Iowa St.) had 344 yards of offense and four touchdowns. ... The seventh annual Sollenberger Classic was held at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Ariz. Defending Class 5A/I champion Phoenix, Desert Vista beat Las Vegas, Palo Verde, 20-10, and Lakeside, Ariz., Blue Ridge topped Overton, Nev., Moapa Valley, 23-15. It was the Yellow Jackets’ 40th win in their last 41 games. ... Hattiesburg, Miss., Oak Grove exploded for a 64-6 season-opening win against Sumrall. It was a successful coaching debut for former NFL superstar Brett Favre, who is now Oak Grove’s offensive coordinator.
