PrepNation 101 Preseason Countdown: No. 27 Servite

PrepNation.com continues the most comprehensive package of preseason high school football rankings ever published. We are counting down the PrepNation 101 Preseason High School Football Rankings, from No. 101 to No. 26, leading up to the release of the official preseason National Prep Poll on August 3.

27. Servite (Anaheim, Calif.)
Last season: 7-4, lost in second round of CIF-SS Pac-5 playoffs
Coach: Troy Thomas
Key players: QB Cody Fajardo (6-2, 195, Sr.), OT Matt Jakubiec (6-8, 310, Sr.), OL Nico Espinoza (6-2, 300, Sr.), OL Wiatt Baker (6-2, 250, Sr.), DT Kirifi Taula (6-3, 280, Sr.), WR Chris Nicholls (5-8, 165, Sr.), DB Connor Loftus (5-11, 175, Sr.), DE Troy Niklas (6-5, 245, Jr.)
Outlook: With 12 total starters returning and arguably the best grouping of offensive and defensive linemen in the area, you have to like the Friars’ chances to compete for the ultra competitive Pac-5 championship. There are seven regulars back on offense including Fajardo, who set a school record for completion percentage last season (65 percent). He’ll have the benefit of working behind an offensive line teeming with talent and experience. The leader of the group is Jakubiec, a mammoth left tackle who has committed to Arizona. Espinoza is the strongest of the group, bench pressing 375 pounds. Baker is a three-sport star who was also the league heavyweight wrestling and shot put champion. The most dangerous offensive skill player is Nicholls, who has run the 100 meters in 10.66 seconds. The strength of a defense with five returning starters also is in the trenches, where Division I prospects Taula and Niklas are stalwarts.
