PrepNation 101 Preseason Countdown: No. 28 Plant

PrepNation.com continues the most comprehensive package of preseason high school football rankings ever published. We are counting down the PrepNation 101 Preseason High School Football Rankings, from No. 101 to No. 26, leading up to the release of the official preseason National Prep Poll on August 3.

28. Plant (Tampa, Fla.)
Last season: 14-1, Class 4A state champion
Coach: Robert Weiner
Key players: WR-DB Eric Dungy (6-1, 170, Sr.), QB Phillip Ely (5-10, 160, Jr.), RB T.J. Glover (5-10, 160, Sr.), LB Mike Mirabella (6-0, 210, Sr.), DE Anthony Harrell (6-0, 215, Sr.), DB Javonte Martin (5-9, 155, Sr.), OL Andre Mondor (6-4, 320, Sr.), OL Tony Posada (6-5, 295, Jr.), OL Jon Vega (6-6, 320, Sr.), DE James Wilder (6-3, 215, Jr.)
Outlook: After winning two of the last three state championships in Class 4A, the Panthers move up to compete against the likes of nationally ranked Lakeland and defending National Prep Poll champion St. Thomas Aquinas in 5A. Despite graduating All-American QB Aaron Murray (Georgia), this should still be an outstanding offensive team. It begins up front with an offensive line featuring excellent size and experience. Behind center is Ely, a junior who gained tremendous experience filling in when Murray missed seven games due to injury. His primary receiver is likely to be Dungy, the son of former NFL coach Tony Dungy. Three-year starting LB Mirabella is the top player back from a defense that allowed only 11 points per game. He will benefit from the arrival of first team all-county performer Wilder, a transfer from Chamberlain and son of the former NFL RB by the same name.
