PrepNation 101 Preseason Countdown: No. 29 St. Ignatius

PrepNation.com continues the most comprehensive package of preseason high school football rankings ever published. We are counting down the PrepNation 101 Preseason High School Football Rankings, from No. 101 to No. 26, leading up to the release of the official preseason National Prep Poll on August 3.

29. St. Ignatius (Cleveland)
Last season: 14-1, Division I state champion
Coach: Chuck Kyle
Key players: LB Scott McVey (6-1, 225, Sr.), QB Mark Myers (6-3, 185, Sr.), RB Kevin Johnson (5-10, 195, Sr.), TE Brendan Carrozzoni (6-4, 225, Sr.), LB Jake Ryan (6-3, 220, Sr.), DE Gerard Ramella (6-2, 210, Sr.), OL Stewart Ross (6-3, 230, Sr.)
Outlook: The two-time National Prep Poll champion Wildcats finished nationally ranked and won their first state championship since 2001. The previous senior class had four Division I recruits, and this year’s group appears to be equally talented. The top returning player is future Ohio St. Buckeye McVey, who earned first team all-state recognition last season after totaling 35 tackles for loss and 17 sacks. Fellow LB Ryan also figures to be a future Division I player. Leading the offense will be first-year starter Myers at QB. He has a good arm and picked up valuable experience last year backing up Andrew Holland (Pennsylvania). Johnson split carries with a couple of other backs last year but should be the featured runner this season. He is a Division I prospect with outstanding speed. Carrozzoni, a Pittsburgh recruit, is the Wildcats’ top returning receiver.
