PrepNation 101 Preseason Countdown: No. 32 Long Beach Poly

PrepNation.com continues the most comprehensive package of preseason high school football rankings ever published. We are counting down the PrepNation 101 Preseason High School Football Rankings, from No. 101 to No. 26, leading up to the release of the official preseason National Prep Poll on August 3.

32. Poly (Long Beach, Calif.)
Last season: 14-1, Division I Open Division state runner-up
Coach: Raul Lara
Key players: WR Kaelin Clay (5-11, 175, Sr.), RB Cory Westbrook (5-11, 185, Sr.), OL-DL Wilson Edwards (6-0, 245, Sr.), OL-DL Ryan Edwards (6-2, 265, Sr.), WR Alex Cannon (5-11, 165, Sr.), QB Chris Leachman (6-4, 195, Sr.)
Outlook: Only five offensive and one defensive starter return for the Jackrabbits, who have won seven CIF section titles the last 12 years and 79 consecutive Moore League games. With youth and inexperience at several positions – including QB – Poly will have its work cut out for it in 2009. Four of 10 regular season opponents are in the PrepNation 101 preseason national rankings. Then come the rigorous Pac-5 Division playoffs, which probably will include a whopping six teams ranked in the PrepNation 101 rankings. As usual, Poly has some explosive skill players on offense. Westbrook averaged six yards per carry as a backup last season. Clay is the ultimate deep threat. Three of his six touchdowns were 50 yards or longer.
