PrepNation 101 Preseason Countdown: No. 33 Madison Central

PrepNation.com continues the most comprehensive package of preseason high school football rankings ever published. We are counting down the PrepNation 101 Preseason High School Football Rankings, from No. 101 to No. 26, leading up to the release of the official preseason National Prep Poll on August 3.

33. Madison Central (Madison, Miss.)
Last season: 12-2, Class 5A state semifinalist
Coach: Bobby Hall
Key players: QB Peyton Johnson (6-0, 190, Sr.), DE Carlton Martin (6-3, 265, Sr.), DE Bryon Bennett (6-3, 265, Sr.), TE Will Bryan (6-2, 240, Sr.), WR L.J. Hollins (6-2, 185, Sr.), OL Defoe West (6-1, 250, Sr.), LB Tyrece McDonald (6-0, 210, Sr.), WR Tobias Singleton (6-2, 175, Jr.)
Outlook: With nine offensive and six defensive starters returning, the Jaguars are a favorite to win their first state title since 1999. Championship trophies are nothing new to Hall, who led Louisville to the Mississippi 4A championship in 1991 and then Amory to three Class 3A titles and into the national rankings during the mid to late 1990s. Johnson is the triggerman of an offense that scored more than 40 points seven times last season. He had 2,228 passing yards and 21 touchdowns and also rushed for 820 yards and 14 scores. His top receiving target will be Singleton, who had 946 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns as a sophomore. West will anchor the offensive line from the center position. He is a three-year starter and did not allow a sack last year. Highly rated recruits Martin and Bennett are stalwarts of a very good defensive line. The two combined for 11.5 sacks and 48 QB pressures last year.
