PrepNation 101 Preseason Countdown: No. 11 Lowndes

PrepNation.com continues the most comprehensive package of preseason high school football rankings ever published. We are counting down the PrepNation 101 Preseason High School Football Rankings, from No. 101 to No. 26, leading up to the release of the official preseason National Prep Poll on August 3.

11. Lowndes (Valdosta, Ga.)
Last season: 12-1, Class 5A state quarterfinalist
Coach: Randy McPherson
Key players: OT-DT Ed Christian (6-5, 290, Sr.), OT-DT Jordan Black (6-4, 245, Sr.), LB-TE Telvin Smith (6-4, 220, Sr.), RB-DB Khary Franklin (5-7, 165, Sr.), OT-DT Justin Browning (6-3, 280, Sr.), LB Robert Anderson (5-9, 195, Sr.), DB Tyler Hunter (6-0, 185, Jr.), LB Michael Copeland (6-3, 220, Sr.), OL-DL Michael Miller (6-2, 250, Sr.)
Outlook: The Vikings began last season ranked No. 3 in the National Prep Poll and seemed a sure bet to pick up their fourth state championship of the decade. But an upset loss to Grayson in the playoffs derailed those hopes. Eight offensive and four defensive starters from that team are back and hungry for redemption. On offense, Florida St.-bound tackle Christian anchors a huge and talented offensive line. They will open holes for Franklin, who isn’t big but has 4.3 speed in the 40. The top players back from a defense that allowed just 9 points per game last season are Florida St.-bound LB Smith and super fast junior DB Hunter.
