PrepNation 101 Preseason Countdown: No. 35 Montgomery Bell Academy

PrepNation.com continues the most comprehensive package of preseason high school football rankings ever published. We are counting down the PrepNation 101 Preseason High School Football Rankings, from No. 101 to No. 26, leading up to the release of the official preseason National Prep Poll on August 3.

35. Montgomery Bell (Nashville, Tenn.)
Last season: 10-2, Division II-AA state runner-up
Coach: Daniel McGugin
Key players: FB-LB Fitz Lassing (6-3, 220, Sr.), TE-LB Brad Bars (6-3, 220, Sr.), QB Luke Colbert (6-3, 215, Sr.), WR William Tanner (6-0, 175, Sr.), K Andrew Fletcher (5-10, 170, Sr.), OL Jordan Staffer (6-2, 290, Sr.)
Outlook: With five starters back on both sides of the ball, the Big Red is a strong contender to win its second state title in three years. Tennessee’s private-school Division II-AA classification is highly competitive, with defending champion and nationally ranked Memphis University, traditional power Brentwood Academy, and up-and-comer Ensworth all returning strong teams this season. MBA’s strong senior class is led by Bars, who had over 100 tackles last season. He is joined at linebacker by Lassing, who is also a great blocker as a fullback. Tanner had nearly 1,000 receiving yards last season, and will be a great asset for first-year starting QB Colbert. Fletcher is one of the top kicking prospects in the South. He made eight field goals last season and can hit from 50-yard range.
