PrepNation 101 Preseason Countdown: No. 53 Butler

PrepNation.com continues the most comprehensive package of preseason high school football rankings ever published. We are counting down the PrepNation 101 Preseason High School Football Rankings, from No. 101 to No. 26, leading up to the release of the official preseason National Prep Poll on August 3.

53. Butler (Matthews, N.C.)
Last season: 12-2, Class 4AA state semifinalist
Coach: Mike Newsome
Key players: QB Christian LeMay (6-3, 190, Jr.), WR-DB Nate Charest (5-10, 170, Sr.), RB-DE Jahwan Edwards (6-0, 225, Jr.), OT Kendall Lamm (6-5, 260, Sr.), LB Alex Polofsky (5-11, 220, Sr.), OT Rich Arelleno (6-6, 270, Sr.)
Outlook: Butler returns nine offensive and five defensive starters from a team that lost only to nemesis Charlotte Independence. LeMay emerged last season as one of the nation’s Top Class 2011 prospects. The talented signal caller threw for 1,639 yards and 15 touchdowns. LeMay has a dependable senior receiver in Charest on which to depend. Up front, Lamm and Arelleno are veteran blockers with great size. Polofsky anchors a defense that must improve if the Bulldogs are going to beat nationally ranked Independence for only the second time in a decade. Junior end Edwards could also develop into a difference-maker.
