PrepNation 101 Preseason Countdown: No. 56 Longview

PrepNation.com continues the most comprehensive package of preseason high school football rankings ever published. We are counting down the PrepNation 101 Preseason High School Football Rankings, from No. 101 to No. 26, leading up to the release of the official preseason National Prep Poll on August 3.

56. Longview (Texas)
Last season: 13-3 (one loss by forfeit), Class 4A/I state runner-up
Coach: John King
Key players: RB Tyler McCray (6-0, 180, Sr.), QB Aaron Johnson (6-1, 180, Sr.), WR Carey Fortson (6-1, 170, Sr.), OL Bryce Redman (6-2, 240, Sr.), DL Bubba Vactor (6-0, 290, Sr.), WR LaDarrian Robertson (6-3, 200, Jr.)
Outlook: The Lobos are the preseason favorite to win a 4A state championship. Amazingly, despite being a perennial football power, it would be Longview’s first title since 1937. There are six starters back on both sides of the ball, led by veteran QB Johnson. As a junior, he had 900 yards rushing and 1,800 yards passing. His favorite targets will be Fortson and up-and-coming junior talent Robertson. Toting the football again will be McCray, who totaled 1,760 yards and 26 touchdowns. The leader of an otherwise rebuilt offensive line is Redman, who already has 30 career starts under his belt.
