PrepNation 101 Preseason Countdown: No. 39 Edison

PrepNation.com continues the most comprehensive package of preseason high school football rankings ever published. We are counting down the PrepNation 101 Preseason High School Football Rankings, from No. 101 to No. 26, leading up to the release of the official preseason National Prep Poll on August 3.

39. Edison (Huntington Beach, Calif.)
Last season: 7-3, did not qualify for the postseason
Coach: Dave White
Key players: OL Roman Sapolu (6-2, 246, Sr.), QB Matt Viles (6-3, 190, Sr.), LB Jordan Zumwalt (6-4, 220, Sr.), WR-FS Jeff Trojan (6-3, 180, Sr.), WR-DB Mike Rivera (5-8, 155, Sr.), RB-DB Davion Orphey (6-1, 175, Jr.), RB-FS Wade Houston (5-11, 170, Sr.)
Outlook: The Chargers, who return seven offensive starters, enter the season on a roll after capturing two of the Southern California’s most significant 7-on-7 passing tournaments during the summer. Viles, a 2,000-yard passing as a junior, is clicking with a strong receiving corps that is led by Trojan and Rivera. The Chargers’ running game is in good hands with talented junior Orphey and Houston back after each averaged more than six yards per carry in ‘08. Sapolu, an Oregon St. recruit and son former NFL lineman Jesse Sapolu, is the cornerstone of an otherwise inexperienced offensive line. The leader on defense is all-state LB Zumwalt, who had 113 tackles and two interceptions as a junior.
