PrepNation 101 Preseason Countdown: No. 48 Stony Point

PrepNation.com continues the most comprehensive package of preseason high school football rankings ever published. We are counting down the PrepNation 101 Preseason High School Football Rankings, from No. 101 to No. 26, leading up to the release of the official preseason National Prep Poll on August 3.

48. Stony Point (Round Rock, Texas)
Last season: 13-2, Class 5A/I state semifinalist
Coach: Craig Chessher
Key players: TE Gerard Shillow (6-3, 215, Sr.), RB Stephen Williams (5-9, 175, Jr.), S Desmond Martin (6-1, 188, Sr.), CB Kevin White (5-9, 165, Sr.), DE John Andrews (6-0, 230, Sr.), QB Aaryn Sharp (6-2, 220, Jr.), QB Gus Berrera (5-9, 170, Jr.)
Outlook: The Tigers enter the 2009 season on a roll. After reaching the state semifinals in just their second-ever playoff berth, they picked up a major piece of hardware over the summer winning the Texas Division I state 7-on-7 championship. It was a significantly good sign for a team that enters the season without a QB firmly ensconced in the starting role. Instead, Sharp, who saw some varsity action as a sophomore, and Berrera, who led the JV team to a perfect 10-0 season, rotated behind center during the tournament. Whichever QB gets the majority of the snaps when the real bullets start flying, he will benefit from having Williams lining up behind him. He was an all-district selection as a sophomore. Shillow, a strong blocker and pass catcher, will line up at H-back. Chessher says the team’s biggest question mark is the offensive line, the one group of position players who do not participate in 7-on-7 play. On defense, all five returning starters were all-district picks. Martin has committed to Texas Tech.
