PrepNation 101 Preseason Countdown: No. 61 DeSoto

PrepNation.com continues the most comprehensive package of preseason high school football rankings ever published. We are counting down the PrepNation 101 Preseason High School Football Rankings, from No. 101 to No. 26, leading up to the release of the official preseason National Prep Poll on August 3.

61. DeSoto (Texas)
Last season: 6-6, lost in second round of 5A/I playoffs
Coach: Claude Mathis
Key players: RB Marcus Murphy (5-10, 180, Sr.), WR Darius Terrell (6-3, 210, Sr.), OL Marcus Hutchins (6-5, 260, Jr.), OL Evan Washington (6-5, 285, Sr.), LB Byron Hudson (6-1, 205, Sr.), DB Adrian White (6-0, 185, Sr.), LB Zach Orr (5-11, 205, Sr.), QB Ryan Polite (6-2, 195, Jr.)
Outlook: Perhaps no team in Texas – or anywhere else – has as many talented returning players as the Eagles do. If not for losing six games last season, their preseason ranking would undoubtedly be higher. There will more than enough time for that to change once the season begins, however. The offense should be explosive with Polite returning to the controls after a strong sophomore season. His primary target figures to be Terrell, a first team all-district player last season who is committed to Texas. The running game also is in fine hands with Murphy back after totaling more than 1,700 combined rushing and receiving yards. In the trenches, there are a pair of blue chippers in LSU recruit Washington and top junior prospect Hutchins. The defense features eight returning starters led by Texas-bound CB White.
