Week 7 National Prep Basketball Poll released

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- With over half its regular season complete, Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.) remained in firm command of the No. 1 ranking when the Week 7 National Prep Basketball Poll was released Monday.

The Monarchs have won three tournament championships this season, including the prestigious City of Palms Classic last month in Fort Myers, Fla. Three of Mater Dei's 14 victories were against teams that have been nationally or regionally ranked this season.

Matchups with national powers Whitney Young (Chicago) and No. 3 St. Benedict's (Newark, N.J.), followed by the CIF section, regional, and state playoffs, are left standing between the Monarchs and their first National Prep Poll title and the first for a California team since 2000.
