Week 8 National Prep Basketball Poll released

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The first full week of the new year brought with it few changes to the national rankings picture.

In the Week 8 National Prep Poll, the Top 10 teams remained unchanged. However, No. 10 St. Patrick (Elizabeth, N.J.) dropped six spots in the rankings after losing, 59-57, to Burlington Life Center. The Celtics were playing without North Carolina-bound point guard Dexter Strickland, who is out indefinitely with a knee injury.

No. 19 South Atlanta (Atlanta) is the only team that entered the Top 25 this week, although it has been ranked for most of the season. The Hornets previously dropped down after losing by 14 to regionally ranked Lawrence North (Indianapolis) December 30 at the T-Mobile Invitational in Muncie, Ind.

After a quiet post-holiday tournament week, the national rankings could be due for another shakeup. At least 23 nationally and regionally ranked teams are scheduled to participate in high-profile Martin Luther King Jr. holiday tournaments and events during the upcoming week.
