THREE AND OUT
The top three storylines, news, notes and milestones from the week that was in high school football.

Nos. 1 and 2 with a bullet
The nation’s top two teams turned in yet another pair of statement wins over the weekend.

Ohio State-committed quarterback Tate Martell accounted for five touchdowns – pushing his career total over 100 – as No. 1 Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas) hammered regionally ranked Kahuku (Hawaii), 35-7, for their 43rd consecutive victory. All four of the Gaels’ wins this season are over teams that are or were ranked this season. The average margin of victory is 27 points.

Meanwhile, IMG Academy’s Texas A&M-bound QB Kellen Mond also was responsible for five touchdowns as the No. 2 Ascenders toppled No. 12 St. John’s (Washington), 35-14. Three of IMG’s four wins were against teams currently in the Top 12 of the national rankings.

Welcome to the show
East (Salt Lake City) and Warren Central (Indianapolis) joined the national rankings for the first time this season.

No. 24 East (5-0) burst down the door to the Top 25 after a 23-21 road win over six-time Prep Poll champion De La Salle (Concord, Calif.). No. 25 Warren Central (4-1) sneaked into the national poll after topping state-ranked Ben Davis (Indianapolis), 35-34. The Warriors’ only loss was by 3 points to No. 16 Colerain (Cincinnati).

For the record
Myles Brennan, a senior at St. Stanislaus (Bay St. Louis, Miss.), became his state’s all-time leader in passing yardage. The LSU commit threw for 366 yards in a 40-14 rout of D’iberville, pushing his career total to 12,801 yards. The previous record holder was Dylan Favre, the nephew of Pro Football Hall-of-Famer Brett Favre and also a St. Stanislaus quarterback. … What was the longest regular-season winning streak in California ended at 48 games when Sacramento High stunned then-regionally ranked Folsom, 32-27. Folsom hadn’t lost a regular season game since 2011. … Quinn Commans of Whittier Christian (La Habra, Calif.) tied a CIF-Southern Section record by throwing nine touchdown passes in a 68-55 win against Bell.

About the PrepNation National Prep Poll
The PrepNation National Prep Poll is a continuation of World Feature Syndicate’s National Prep Poll, which was published and distributed to the Associated Press and other news organizations from 1987 to 2015.

The National Prep Poll is second only to the USA Today Super 25 as the longest continually published weekly high school rankings. While a product of World Features Syndicate (1987-2015), the National Prep Poll was the only high school poll distributed to newspapers and websites around the United States by the Associated Press.

Before authoring rankings for Student Sports and ESPN, National High School Sports Hall of Fame journalist Doug Huff compiled the National Prep Poll rankings from 1987 until 1999. Current author Jamie DeMoney has compiled the poll since the start of the 1999 basketball season to the present.

Among the criteria used in the weekly compilation of the National Prep Poll rankings are strength of schedule, the ability to accomplish the ultimate goal on a team's schedule (i.e. winning a championship), impact players and performers, a team's coaching and recent tradition.
