Katy matched a state
record with its eighth state title by defeating No. 15 Lake Travis (Austin),
34-7, for the Class 6A/Division II crown before a crowd of nearly 44,000 at NRG
Stadium in Houston.
The Tigers (16-0), who
spent the final three weeks of the season at No. 1, closed the year with three
consecutive wins over current or former Top 25 teams by a combined margin of
107-24. Katy outscored opponents 778-62 overall and recorded a remarkable 10
shutouts in 16 games.
This is the first National
Prep Poll title for Katy, which matched two-time Prep Poll champion Southlake
Carroll and Celina by winning its eighth Texas state championship.
The Tigers are now 168-14
with four state championships in 12 seasons under coach Gary Joseph.
The National Prep Football
Poll is compiled by Jamie DeMoney of XOS Digital with input from sportswriters,

About the PrepNation
National Prep Poll
The PrepNation National
Prep Poll is a continuation of World Feature Syndicate’s National Prep Poll,
which was published and distributed to the Associated Press and other news
organizations from 1987 to 2015.
The National Prep Poll is
second only to the USA Today Super 25 as the longest continually published
weekly high school rankings. While a product of World Features Syndicate
(1987-2015), the National Prep Poll was the only high school poll distributed
to newspapers and websites around the United States by the Associated Press.
Before authoring rankings
for Student Sports and ESPN, National High School Sports Hall of Fame
journalist Doug Huff compiled the National Prep Poll rankings from 1987 until
1999. Current author Jamie DeMoney has compiled the poll since the start of the
1999 basketball season to the present.
Among the criteria used in
the weekly compilation of the National Prep Poll rankings are strength of
schedule, the ability to accomplish the ultimate goal on a team's schedule
(i.e. winning a championship), impact players and performers, a team's coaching
and recent tradition.
About PrepNation.com
PrepNation.com was
originally launched August 1, 2001 by Jamie DeMoney for the purpose of creating
a permanent online home for the National Prep Poll football and boys basketball
rankings.

"The Tigers are now 168-14 with three state championships in 12 seasons under coach Gary Joseph."
It's actually Gary Joseph's 4th state title - 2007, 2008, 2012, 2015
Great achievement , but it's still D2....no D2 team should win the national championship. Play the big boys and play some respectable programs in ores season. Strength of schedule was pathetic. JD and Prep nation missed this one ...
