THREE-POINTERS

Top Three Storylines

· Chino Hill was idle during its first week as the nation’s top-ranked team. The Wolves return to the court this week at the City of Palms Classic in Fort Myers, Fla., where they’ll lead a 16-team field that features nine squads in this week’s national and regional rankings – including No. 2 Montverde Academy. If both teams win their first-round games, they would square off in next Monday’s quarterfinals.

· In an ESPN2-televised game between Top 25 teams, No. 2 Montverde Academy topped No. 14 St. Joseph Huntington Prep, 63-59. Freshman wing R.J. Barrett scored with 18 points and sophomore forward Simi Shittu grabbed 21 rebounds to lead the Eagles.

· No. 12 Hopkins (Minnetonka, Minn.) entered the Top 25 after knocking off the previous No. 12 Apple Valley, 89-81. Minnesota-bound senior wing Amir Coffey led Hopkins with 22 points. Blue chip junior Gary Trent Jr. had a game-high 27 for Apple Valley.

Top Three Feats

Malik Monk, a senior guard and Kentucky recruit, scored 53 points – including 40 in the second half – to lead No. 24 Bentonville (Ark.) to an 84-76 win overArlington (Tenn.).

Duke-bound Jayson Tatum of No. 7 Chaminade (St. Louis) erupted for 40 points in an 86-77 overtime victory against regionally ranked Miller Grove (Lithonia, Ga.).

Senior forward Nick Rakocevic of St. Joseph (Westchester, Ill.) had a triple-double with 23 points, 23 rebounds and 10 blocks in a 60-54 win against Orr (Chicago).

The PrepNation National Prep Poll is a continuation of World Feature Syndicate’s National Prep Poll, which was published and distributed to the Associated Press and other news organizations from 1987 to 2015.

The National Prep Poll is second only to the USA Today Super 25 as the longest continually published weekly high school rankings. While a product of World Features Syndicate (1987-2015), the National Prep Poll was the only high school poll distributed to newspapers and websites around the United States by the Associated Press.

Before authoring rankings for Student Sports and ESPN, National High School Sports Hall of Fame journalist Doug Huff compiled the National Prep Poll rankings from 1987 until 1999. Current author Jamie DeMoney has compiled the poll since the start of the 1999 basketball season to the present.

Among the criteria used in the weekly compilation of the National Prep Poll rankings are strength of schedule, the ability to accomplish the ultimate goal on a team's schedule (i.e. winning a championship), impact players and performers, a team's coaching and recent tradition.
