RECAPPING THE RANKINGS
Top Five Storylines
· The Pac-5 Division championship game we’ve
all anticipated will happen after No. 1 St. John Bosco and No. 5 Corona
Centennial won their semifinal games. Top-ranked St. John Bosco crushed regionally ranked Bishop Amat, 63-10, and No. 5 Centennial outlasted Mater Dei,
42-36. With a matchup against Top 10 team De La Salle in the state title game
likely still ahead, Saturday’s winner will be in the pole position to finish
the season ranked No. 1.
· The highest riser among this week’s Top
25 teams is Mill Creek (Hoschton), which emerged from the regional rankings all
the way to No. 13 this week. The Hawks destroyed then-No. 21 Archer, 23-0, to
set up a Class 6A semifinal matchup with No. 4 Colquitt County this week.
· In a small but significant move, Katy
passed fellow Texas power Allen in this week’s rankings. The Tigers jumped from
No. 6 to No. 3 after drubbing Friendswood, 66-0, in the 6A/Division II
playoffs. Katy has outscored opponents by a combined 671-38. Allen, which has a
56-game winning streak, slipped one spot to No. 6.
· No. 11 Wayne (Huber Heights) and No. 14
St. Edward (Lakewood) will lock horns in Ohio’s Division I state championship
game for the second straight year. Wayne earned a chance to avenge last
season’s loss to the Eagles by knocking off then-No. 16 Colerain, 28-21. St.
Edward breezed past Stow, 45-7, in the other semifinal.
· A total of four nationally ranked teams
have earned state championships so far this season. Three Top 25 squads took
home trophies over the weekend. No. 16 Loyola pummeled Marist, 41-0, for the
Illinois 8A championship; No. 17 Center Grove captured the Indiana 6A crown
with a 28-16 win over Penn; and No. 22 Blue Springs South grabbed the Missouri
Class 6 title by defeating defending champion Christian Brothers, 37-28.
Top Five Risers

309 yards to up his season total to 4,171 yards. Former University of Colorado
and University of Washington quarterback Taylor Barton was the former
record-holder.
Stone Ridge Christian
(Merced, Calif.) broke a state record with its 10th consecutive
shutout. The Knights blanked Big Valley Christian, 69-0, for the Sac-Joaquin
Section Division VII championship. Stone Ridge Christian allowed 69 points in
its first two games this season, then outscored its next 10 opponents by a
combined 565-0.

About the PrepNation
National Prep Poll
The PrepNation National
Prep Poll is a continuation of World Feature Syndicate’s National Prep Poll,
which was published and distributed to the Associated Press and other news
organizations from 1987 to 2015.
The National Prep Poll is
second only to the USA Today Super 25 as the longest continually published
weekly high school rankings. While a product of World Features Syndicate
(1987-2015), the National Prep Poll was the only high school poll distributed
to newspapers and websites around the United States by the Associated Press.
Before authoring rankings
for Student Sports and ESPN, National High School Sports Hall of Fame
journalist Doug Huff compiled the National Prep Poll rankings from 1987 until
1999. Current author Jamie DeMoney has compiled the poll since the start of the
1999 basketball season to the present.
Among the criteria used in
the weekly compilation of the National Prep Poll rankings are strength of
schedule, the ability to accomplish the ultimate goal on a team's schedule (i.e.
winning a championship), impact players and performers, a team's coaching and
recent tradition.
