RECAPPING THE RANKINGS

Top Five Storylines

1. IMG Academy drops another ranked foe: If not for an “officially unofficial” loss to No. 9 American Heritage (Planation) in the preseason, the Ascenders undoubtedly would be ranked much higher than their current No. 11 position. Notre Dame-committed running back Tony Jones cracked 100 yards with two touchdowns in IMG’s 24-12 win over No. 24 St. Joseph Regional – its third win against a current or former Top 25 team this season.

2. DeMatha clobbers another WCAC foe: Junior quarterback Beau English threw for 312 yards and two touchdowns as the No. 6 Stags blanked St. John’s (D.C.), 40-0. It’s their second consecutive shutout. From a national rankings standpoint, DeMatha has decidedly more upside than IMG even though the toughest part of its schedule might be over. The Stags are the only team to be American Heritage and also had a convincing win against preseason No. 6 Miami Central.

3. Bishop Gorman continues to dominate home state: George W. Bush was still living in the White House the last time the No. 2 Gaels lost to a Nevada opponent. Shadow Ridge (Las Vegas) became Gorman’s 68th consecutive in-state victim, going down in a 70-7 laugher that was already 35-0 at the end of the first quarter.

4. Spartanburg ends 14-game skid against Byrnes: The 14th-ranked Vikings toppled their regionally-ranked rival, 17-7, on a muddy track at Byrnes. Clemson-bound senior running back Tavien Feaster finished with 176 combined rushing and receiving yards with one touchdown.

5. La Salle, Elder prevail in GCLS overtime doubleheader: No. 19 La Salle and regionally ranked Elder share the lead in the Greater Cincinnati Catholic League South standings after each won overtime thrillers. La Salle secured only its seventh win in 54 games all-time against Moeller with a 13-7 OT victory, dropping the Crusaders to 2-4 for the season. Meanwhile, Elder needed two extra sessions to defeat St. Xavier, 24-17.

Top Five Risers

1. Woodland Hills (Pa.)
2. Elder (Ohio)
3. La Salle (Pa.)
4. Northwestern (S.C.)
5. Westside (S.C.)

Top Five Feats … plus one

1. Maine-Endwell breaks N.Y. win streak record: The Spartans topped Johnson City, 45-30, for their 56th consecutive victory, besting a state record that stood for nearly 60 years. Maine-Endwell hasn’t lost a game since the 2010 state playoffs.

2. Spain Park (Ala.) ends Hoover’s 43-game in-state run: The 17-0 loss ended Hoover’s 43-game winning streak versus Alabama opponents that begin in 2012. Spain Park also ended its own 13-game losing streak against the then-regionally ranked Bucs.

3. Converse Judson extends its own state record: The Rockets now have 39 consecutive winning seasons, more than any other program in Texas prep football history. Judson (6-0) clinched the mark with a 47-27 win over Wagner.

4. Kueter ties S.D. record for victories: O’Gorman (Sioux Falls) coach Steve Kueter earned his 284th win – tying a state record – as his team cruised past Yankton, 35-0. Ironically, Kueter is now tied with former Yankton coach Max Hawk.

5. Nebraska 8-man team delivers a 92-0 beating: Perkins County – whose combined record the past two seasons was a paltry 4-13 – improved to 5-0 this year by crushing Creek Valley, 92-0. The Plainsmen have outscored their competition by a combined 334-40 so far.

Plus one … Cleveland’s Whitney Young gets first-ever win: The Warriors beat Senate AthleticLeague rival Collinwood, 12-0, for the first victory in the program’s 23-game history, which began in 2013.

About the PrepNation National Prep Poll
The PrepNation National Prep Poll is a continuation of World Feature Syndicate’s National Prep Poll, which was published and distributed to the Associated Press and other news organizations from 1987 to 2015.

The National Prep Poll is second only to the USA Today Super 25 as the longest continually published weekly high school rankings. While a product of World Features Syndicate (1987-2015), the National Prep Poll was the only high school poll distributed to newspapers and websites around the United States by the Associated Press.
Before authoring rankings for Student Sports and ESPN, National High School Sports Hall of Fame journalist Doug Huff compiled the National Prep Poll rankings from 1987 until 1999. Current author Jamie DeMoney has compiled the poll since the start of the 1999 basketball season to the present.

Among the criteria used in the weekly compilation of the National Prep Poll rankings are strength of schedule, the ability to accomplish the ultimate goal on a team's schedule (i.e. winning a championship), impact players and performers, a team's coaching and recent tradition.
