Week 4 National Prep Football Poll released

WAUKEE, Iowa -- As a two-time National Prep Poll champion, Don Bosco Prep (N.J.) certainly is no stranger to lofty rankings. Following their win against then-No. 22 St. Joseph's Prep (Pa.) last week, the Ironmen have again cracked the national Top 10 -- and could go much higher with a win Saturday against top-ranked St. Thomas Aquinas (Fla.).

FEATS OF THE WEEK: There were a whopping four head-to-head matchups between teams ranked in last week’s Top 25. No. 3 Allen, Texas, extended its winning streak to 29 games by holding off No. 20 Irmo, S.C., Dutch Fork, 58-53. Senior quarterback Kyler Murray (a Texas A&M recruit) sparked Allen with 564 combined passing and rushing yards and seven touchdowns. ... Miami, Booker T. Washington picked up another huge win in defense of the National Prep Poll title it won last season. The fourth-ranked Tornadoes squeezed past No. 15 Miami, Central, 21-20, for their 29th straight win. ... No. 5 Las Vegas, Bishop Gorman needed overtime to defeat No. 23 South Jordan, Utah, Bingham, 23-20. It was the Gaels’ second win in as many weeks against a current or former Top 25 team. ... No. 10 Ramsey, N.J., Don Bosco jumped up 11 spots this week following a stunning 35-7 rout of regionally-ranked Philadelphia, St. Joseph’s Prep. The game was called with less than three minutes left in the second quarter due to lightning. ... Senior Jake Browning of No. 18 Folsom, Calif., became his state’s all-time leader in career touchdown passes (with 151). The Washington commit had six scoring strikes – all in the first half – during a 49-13 blowout of Fresno, Calif., Clovis North. Browning, who threw for a single-season record 75 touchdowns last year, is also California’s all-time leader in passing yardage.

Compiled weekly weekly since 1987 and distributed by World Features Syndicate and the Associated Press, the National Prep Poll is the nation's second oldest weekly high school sports rankings. Doug Huff compiled the rankings from 1987 until 1999. Jamie DeMoney has compiled the poll since the start of the 1999 basketball season to the present.

PrepNation.com was originally launched August 1, 2001 by Jamie DeMoney for the purpose of creating a permanent online home for the National Prep Poll football and boys basketball rankings.

The National Prep Poll is the only high school poll distributed to newspapers and websites around the United States by the Associated Press.

Among the criteria used in the weekly compilation of the National Prep Poll rankings are strength of schedule, the ability to accomplish the ultimate goal on a team's schedule (i.e. winning a championship), impact players and performers, a team's coaching and recent tradition.
