     FEATS OF THE WEEK: Despite losing its first game, Montverde, Fla., Montverde Academy did not relinquish its grasp on the nation’s No. 1 ranking. The Eagles were beaten, 73-69, by No. 3 Chicago, Curie at the HoopHall Classic in Springfield, Mass., last Monday. It was Montverde Academy’s first loss in seven contests against a current or former Top 25 team, and was its fourth game in five days -- all played more than 1,000 miles away from home. Senior forward Cliff Alexander (a Kansas recruit) had 30 points, 12 rebounds, and five blocks to lead Curie, which overcame a 12-point deficit in the fourth quarter. ... Curie’s Chicago Public League rival No. 8 Chicago, Whitney Young also secured a big win at the HoopHall Classic. Senior forwards Paul White (Georgetown) and Jahlil Okafor (Duke) had 19 and 14 points, respectively, as the Dolphins topped No. 9 Mouth of Wilson, Va., Oak Hill, 53-50. ... In other HoopHall Classic action, preseason No. 1 Santa Ana, Calif., Mater Dei collected its first victory against a Top 25 team. Junior guard Rex Pflueger exploded for 30 points to lead the No. 2 Monarchs to a 79-67 win against then-No. 18 Philadelphia, Neumann-Goretti. ... No. 13 Las Vegas, Bishop Gorman picked up its first win in seven meetings against metro rival No. 19 Henderson, Nev., Findlay. Senior guard Noah Robotham (uncommitted) led the Gaels to a 76-72 overtime triumph with 25 points. 7-foot standout junior Stephen Zimmerman had 13 points and nine rebounds. Senior guard Kelly Oubre (Kansas) paced Findlay with 22 points.
