Week 16 National Prep Basketball Poll released

URBANDALE, Iowa -- The teams that make up the Top 10 of the National Prep Poll are the same for the second straight week, but there was changeup in the order.

Paterson Catholic (N.J.) made the most significant jump in the Week 16 poll, which was released Monday morning. The Cougars vaulted five spots to No. 3, well within striking distance of their first Prep Poll title should No. 1 Northland (Columbus, Ohio) or No. 2 Findlay (Henderson, Nev.) lose a game.

Paterson Catholic is 3-0 against current Top 25 teams (No. 23 Penn Wood, No. 15 Montverde Academy, and No. 14 Winter Park). The Cougars also beat eventual Florida 4A champion Fort Myers by 28 and could pick up another Top-25 win Tuesday when they play No. 20 St. Anthony (Jersey City) for the Non-Public North B state championship.

Neumann-Goretti (Philadelphia) also crept closer to the top of the poll, from No. 7 to No. 5. The Saints' only loss was by one point to No. 4 Yates (Houston) at the Iolani Classic in Hawaii. They captured the Philadelphia Catholic League and city championship games last week and begin the state Class 3A playoffs Friday.

So, you guys must despise Yates for being GREAT! Your poll isn't worth spit!

This poll keeps looking better each week. I've thought for awhile now that "if" any NE team belongs ahead of Goretti it's Paterson, not the other Jersey teams. Unblemished record and 3 Top 25 wins. Still, if I were forced to wager my life savings on the outcome of a game I'd take N-G over them, and all these NE teams.

I would change the top 2 in the NE region, then the rest looks good. Also most people around here still consider Whitemarsh the best AAAA team in PA, by a slight margin over Penn Wood despite the recent result. Wood was in the same boat last year. Even though they lost in districts I still knew they were the best team and they proved it in states.

Yates belongs #1.I have seen all the top 5 at least 3 times and no one could play 4 quarters with them. N-G should be #2. Patterson at three is a big joke. They finally playrd a decent team and got blasted.

This poll was made before that Paterson loss, and that poor showing will surely be reflected in the next one. And that was hardly the first "decent team" they've played or beaten this year. But yes, Goretti belongs #1 in the NE. And their game against Yates in Hawaii was as close to a national championship game as we're gonna get, seeing as how these teams can't possibly all play each other. Then again I haven't seen that Northland team, and going by their SOS alone and those huge wins over Findlay & Oak Hill... it's darn hard to deny them a claim.

You could make a case for a lot of these teams, and even teams not on the list at all. No poll will ever please everybody.

We know Paterson was moved up on this poll before they lost. The question is why did they move up so far? From 8 to 3? Give me a break! Why are they ahead of Yates? As stated, one could make an argument about many of these teams, but I think some of these polls are punishing the Yates team because of Yate's coach. There's no way Paterson nor Finlay should be ahead of Yates. Period!

Yates have won back to back state championships. They've broken the 40 year old record for consecutive games over 100pts (15 games). I could go on and on, this website knows the deal there's just a bias against Yates.

I'm so happy to see Paterson lost, that just goes to show the people who thought Paterson should have jump so high in the poll doesn't know squat!
