FEATS OF THE WEEK - February 28, 2000 - By Jamie DeMoney

  • A crowd of 8,590 witnessed a battle between Michigan Class-A powers Saginaw and Lansing, Waverly at Michigan State's Breslin Center. Anthony Roberson had 25 points to lead regionally ranked Saginaw to a 70-56 victory.

  • Regionally ranked Jamaica Plain, Mass., Boston English won its second consecutive Boston city championship, defeating then-unbeaten Charleston, 76-73, before a packed house at UMass-Boston. Massachusetts recruit Raheim Lamb had 27 points and blocked a game-tying three-point attempt to seal the victory.

  • No. 10 Portland, Ore., Jefferson outscored Cleveland, 26-9, in the fourth quarter en route to a 70-60 perfect-season clinching victory. The Democrats finished the regular season 24-0 and won their first league title since 1992.

  • Over 6,000 fans watched as Phoenix, Shadow Mountain routed Highland, 79-53, to claim Arizona's Class 5A state title at America West Arena. Jamaal Scott led all scorers with 31 points for the Matadors.

  • Las Vegas, Bishop Gorman's Dinard Taylor sunk a 25-foot three-pointer with 35 seconds left in regulation to force overtime and an eventual 81-70 win over cross-town rival Durango in the Nevada Class 4A state championship game. Taylor finished with 22 points and teammate Jason Carter had 21 points, 10 rebounds and six blocks for the regionally ranked Gaels.

  • Dallas metro player of the year Brian Boddicker hit the second of three free throws with no time on the clock as regionally ranked Duncanville, Texas, survived with a 48-47 victory over Euless, Trinity in a second-round game of the state 5A playoffs.
