PrepNation 101 Preseason Countdown: No. 18 De La Salle

PrepNation.com continues the most comprehensive package of preseason high school football rankings ever published. We are counting down the PrepNation 101 Preseason High School Football Rankings, from No. 101 to No. 26, leading up to the release of the official preseason National Prep Poll on August 3.

18. De La Salle (Concord, Calif.)
Last season: 12-2, Division I state runner-up
Coach: Bob Ladouceur
Key players: RB Tyler Anderson (5-10, 185, Sr.), RB Terron Ward (5-7, 173, Sr.), OT-DT Tom Hickel (6-3, 260, Sr.), OT-DT Chris Lawrence (6-2, 258, Sr.), TE-LB Blake Renaud (6-2, 235, Jr.), OT-DE Dylan Winn (6-2, 230, Jr.), OG-DT Dino Waldren (6-0, 245, Sr.), DE William Marre (5-11, 235, Sr.)
Outlook: The Spartans have 11 total starters returning, with an especially strong group of offensive and defensive linemen. Under Ladouceur, De La Salle has won six National Prep Poll titles and an unimaginable 93 percent of its games. One of the main reasons for that unprecedented success has been the Spartans’ superior line play and physical nature. With that in mind, although this year’s team lacks experience at quarterback and receiver, there is no reason to expect anything but another outstanding season. There is good experience and talent at the RB position. Ward and Anderson combined for close to 1,300 rushing yards last season. The Spartans have not one but two games against nationally ranked out-of-state opponents on their schedule. On September 12, they will travel to New Jersey and attempt to avenge last season’s loss to No. 14 Don Bosco Prep. Two weeks later, No. 17 Lakeland comes to California for a meeting at Diablo Valley College. Both games are expected to be nationally televised.
