PrepNation 101 Preseason Countdown: No. 13 Elder

PrepNation.com continues the most comprehensive package of preseason high school football rankings ever published. We are counting down the PrepNation 101 Preseason High School Football Rankings, from No. 101 to No. 26, leading up to the release of the official preseason National Prep Poll on August 3.

13. Elder (Cincinnati)
Last season: 13-2, Division I state runner-up
Coach: Doug Ramsey
Key players: QB Mark Miller (6-0, 170, Sr.), RB Adam Brown (5-8, 165, Sr.), WR Tim O’Conner (6-4, 190, Sr.), TE Alex Welch (6-5, 235, Sr.), DE Pete Bachman (6-4, 220, Sr.), K Tony Milano (6-1, 170, Sr.), LB-P Corey Mason (6-3, 200, Sr.)
Outlook: The Panthers fell one win short of capturing their third state title in seven seasons last year. Four offensive starters return but there none are back on the offensive line. That might not matter much because the returning skill performers are outstanding. Running the offense for the third straight season will be Miller, a first team all-state selection last season who threw for nearly 2,000 yards. His top receiving targets also return in the sure-handed O’Conner, an Indiana recruit, and Notre Dame-bound TE Welch. On defense, seven starters return to duty including Indiana-bound DE Bachman. Elder’s should have an edge in special teams against most foes with Milano back handling the kicking duties. As a junior, he hit a school-record 47-yard field goal.
