PrepNation 101 Preseason Countdown: No. 22 Skyline

PrepNation.com continues the most comprehensive package of preseason high school football rankings ever published. We are counting down the PrepNation 101 Preseason High School Football Rankings, from No. 101 to No. 26, leading up to the release of the official preseason National Prep Poll on August 3.

22. Skyline (Dallas)
Last season: 12-2, Class 5A/I state quarterfinalist
Coach: Reginald Samples
Key players: LB Corey Nelson (6-1, 215, Sr.), LB Domonique Patterson (6-0, 220, Sr.), WR Mike Davis (6-1, 180, Sr.), WR Joe Powell (6-1, 174, Sr.), QB Javia Hall (6-2, 175, Sr.), DL Rodney Williams (6-1, 240, Sr.), OL Graylin Hawkins (6-3, 230, Sr.), OL DeMarcus Shaw (6-2, 225, Sr.), RB Tony Drake (5-9, 175, Sr.)
Outlook: Not since 1988 has a Dallas Independent School District team captured a Texas 5A state title. The Raiders, sporting a roster that includes nine players already committed to Division I colleges, might have what it takes to end that championship draught. It’s hard to narrow down just one team strength for this squad. But you’d probably look first at linebacker, where the Texas A&M-bound duo of Nelson and Patterson return for their third year of starting duty. As a junior, Nelson notched 155 tackles, 12 sacks, and blocked a ridiculous nine punts. Making their job easier will be a very good defensive line that features Houston recruit Williams, a first team all-district player last year. Hall (North Texas) takes over a full-time roll at QB after sharing snaps last season. He will have the luxury of throwing the football to a pair of major Division I recruits in Davis (LSU) and Powell (Oklahoma). Drake, an explosive runner and dangerous receiver out of the backfield, is headed to play at Michigan next season. The offensive line has three all-district players returning, including North Texas recruit Hawkins.
