PrepNation 101 Preseason Countdown: No. 25 John Curtis Christian

PrepNation.com continues the most comprehensive package of preseason high school football rankings ever published. We are counting down the PrepNation 101 Preseason High School Football Rankings, from No. 101 to No. 26, leading up to the release of the official preseason National Prep Poll on August 3.

25. John Curtis Christian (River Ridge, La.)
Last season: 14-1, Class 2A state champion
Coach: J.T. Curtis
Key players: OT Luke Charpentier (6-4, 295, Sr.), TE-FB Chris Guillot (6-0, 215, Sr.), QB Bryce Jenkins (5-11, 190, Sr.), DB Jonathan McKnight (6-1, 175, Sr.), DT Walker Ashburn (6-2, 255, Sr.), DL Jermaine Collins (5-10, 200, Sr.), LB John White (5-10, 215, Sr.), LB Dex Thibodeaux (5-10, 220, Sr.), LB Seth Jones (6-1, 200, Jr.), RB Torrey Pierce (5-9, 155, Jr.), Josh Hanberry (5-9, 170, Sr.), WR Darian Allen (6-1, 185, Sr.)
Outlook: The Patriots lost last year’s opening game against preseason No. 1 Euless (Texas) Trinity, 28-12, but rebounded to win 14 straight games and roll to state championship No. 23 in the last 34 seasons. Seven key defensive starters are back from that team including versatile senior DB and return man McKnight. He is the younger brother of USC standout Joe McKnight. Ashburn, and highly rated Division I prospect, and Collins anchor a very good defensive line. Their play will make life easier for a llinebacker corps that already returns three out of four starters. On offense, Jenkins takes over the starting QB job after playing significant minutes as a junior. He will be aided by the return of two starters at receiver in Hanberry and Allen. The top returning blockers are blue chip tackle Charpentier and TE-FB Guillot. Pierce, who averaged 7 yards per carry as a sophomore, has a chance to be the Patriots’ primary ball carrier.
