PrepNation 101 Preseason Countdown: No. 9 Skyline

PrepNation.com continues the most comprehensive package of preseason high school football rankings ever published. We are counting down the PrepNation 101 Preseason High School Football Rankings, from No. 101 to No. 26, leading up to the release of the official preseason National Prep Poll on August 3.

9. Skyline (Sammamish, Wash.)
Last season: 14-0, Class 4A state champion
Coach: Mat Taylor
Key players: QB Jake Heaps (6-2, 195, Sr.), WR Kasen Williams (6-2, 195, Jr.), WR Miles Edwards (6-1, 190, Sr.), OT Jase Butorac (6-3, 280, Sr.), OL Michael Stead (6-4, 240, Sr.), OG Evan Day (6-3, 255, Sr.), TE-DE Cooper Pelluer (6-3, 225, Sr.), LB Anthony DeMatteo (5-11, 200, Sr.)
Outlook: The two-time defending 4A champion enters the season on a 28-game winning streak. The Spartans are built around Heaps, a four-year starter and highly touted BYU recruit. As a junior, he threw for more than 3,100 yards with 31 touchdowns. His top target is Williams, one of the nation’s top recruits in the Class of 2011. Williams, also a starter since his freshman year, had nearly 1,000 receiving yards last season. He was also the state high jump champion (6-10) last spring and already has offers from many of the nation’s top college programs. Up front, the Spartans are in great shape with three big offensive linemen returning. Pelluer is talented two-way player who is poised for a breakout senior year. All-league LB DeMatteo is the top returning player from a defense that allowed only 6 points per game.
