PrepNation 101 Preseason Countdown: No. 6 Oscar Smith

PrepNation.com continues the most comprehensive package of preseason high school football rankings ever published. We are counting down the PrepNation 101 Preseason High School Football Rankings, from No. 101 to No. 26, leading up to the release of the official preseason National Prep Poll on August 3.

6. Oscar Smith (Chesapeake, Va.)
Last season: 15-0, Division 6 state champion
Coach: Richard Morgan
Key players: QB Phillip Sims (6-2, 220, Sr.), DT Evan Hailes (6-1, 315, Sr.), DE Corey Steward (5-10, 245, Sr.), LB Raysean Richardson (6-0, 200, Jr.), LB Jeremy Majette (6-1, 240, Sr.)
Outlook: With one of the nation’s top-rated quarterbacks and four offensive linemen returning, the Tigers are a heavy favorite to repeat as state champs in Virginia’s largest classification. Sims, an Alabama recruit and four-year starter, was first team all-state last season after throwing for more than 3,200 yards and 38 touchdowns. He also had over 3,000 passing yards as a sophomore when the Tigers lost in the state semifinals. Seven starters are back from a defense that allowed only 8 points per contest. The anchor of the defensive line is Hailes, a Penn St. recruit and two-time all-state selection. He is flanked by Steward, who had 16 sacks and 20 tackles for loss in ’08. Richardson returns to lead the linebackers after totaling eight sacks and 11 tackles for loss as a sophomore. He will be joined by Majette, a transfer from Bayside (Virginia Beach). The Tigers open the season August 28 with a nationally televised matchup against Venice (Fla.).

i second that, i know they are new to the ranking, but when you have sophmores making stats 2 and three yrs in a row....think about what your say...qb threw for over 3000 yrs two yrs in a row, he not one of the best, he is the best prepnation...and stewert had 81 tackles/21 for loss...as they sing when they take the field...."let em out let em out"....move that ranking up and help them get a better showing....like st. thomas aquinas...yea...st. thomas should have been here for the tigers
