PrepNation 101 Preseason Countdown: No. 70 St. Xavier

PrepNation.com continues the most comprehensive package of preseason high school football rankings ever published. We are counting down the PrepNation 101 Preseason High School Football Rankings, from No. 101 to No. 26, leading up to the release of the official preseason National Prep Poll on August 3.

70. St. Xavier (Louisville, Ky.)
Last season: 12-1, Class 6A state semifinalist
Coach: Mike Glaser
Key players: QB Brian Buehner (6-0, 175, Sr.), RB Jermiah Neal (5-10, 193, Sr.), OG Zane Karrer (6-4, 270, Sr.), SS Nick Sears (5-11, 190, Sr.), K Wyatt Gray (6-2, 185, Sr.), DB Daylen Hall (5-10, 175, Jr.)
Outlook: For the second straight season, the Tigers defeated nationally ranked Louisville Trinity in the regular season but were then upended by their archrival in postseason play. This year’s team has seven total returning starters including at QB with Buehner, who runs a 4.5 40-yard time. He will hand the ball off plenty of times to Neal, a well put-together senior who saw quite a bit of action as a junior backing up last year’s state Mr. Football Rolandan Finch (Boston College). The defense features a pair of true athletes in SS Sears and a future Division I prospect in Hall. Gray, who made 12-13 field goals and 93-95 PATs, gives the Tigers a great edge in the kicking game.
