PrepNation 101 Preseason Countdown: No. 86 Sumter

PrepNation.com continues the most comprehensive package of preseason high school football rankings ever published. We are counting down the PrepNation 101 Preseason High School Football Rankings, from No. 101 to No. 26, leading up to the release of the official preseason National Prep Poll on August 3.

86. Sumter (S.C.)
Last season: 12-3, Class 4A/I runner-up
Coach: Paul Sorrells
Key players: QB Stephen Curtis (6-3, 220, Sr.), OT Marques Pair (6-6, 260, Sr.), SS Timmy Rogers (5-9, 180, Sr.), WR Tyler Smith (6-2, 185, Sr.), WR Danniel Duncan (5-9, 190, Sr.)
Outlook: The Fighting Gamecocks return 12 starters plus both kicking specialists from a team that challenged nationally ranked Byrnes in the state championship game. The team’s strength should be its passing game, led by Division I prospect Curtis. Last season, he threw for nearly 2,500 yards with 25 touchdowns. Pair, who has committed to Tennessee, is back at left tackle to protect Curtis’ blindside. The top returning defender is Rogers, who was second on the team in tackles as a junior.
