PrepNation 101 Preseason Countdown: No. 89 Southlake Carroll

PrepNation.com continues the most comprehensive package of preseason high school football rankings ever published. We are counting down the PrepNation 101 Preseason High School Football Rankings, from No. 101 to No. 26, leading up to the release of the official preseason National Prep Poll on August 3.

89. Carroll (Southlake, Texas)
Last season: 8-3, lost in second round of Class 5A/I playoffs
Coach: Hal Wasson
Key players: DE Jackson Richards (6-4, 245, Sr.), CB Kacy Rodgers (6-2, 190, Sr.), OL Kody Weaver (6-1, 260, Sr.), LB-K Cade Foster (6-1, 215, Sr.), QB David Piland (6-2, 190, Sr.), LB Mitchell Osborne (6-2, 210, Sr.)
Outlook: The Dragons will compete hard for their first state championship under third-year coach Wasson. In contrast to earlier this decade, when Carroll rode a high-flying offense to four state championships and two National Prep Poll titles in a five-year span, most of the Dragons’ top athletes can be found on defense. Top recruits Richards (Texas Tech) and Rodgers (Miami) are among eight returning starters on that side of the ball. On offense, Piland could become the fifth consecutive Carroll QB to earn a Division I scholarship.
