PrepNation 101 Preseason Countdown: No. 90 Grant

PrepNation.com continues the most comprehensive package of preseason high school football rankings ever published. We are counting down the PrepNation 101 Preseason High School Football Rankings, from No. 101 to No. 26, leading up to the release of the official preseason National Prep Poll on August 3.

90. Grant (Sacramento, Calif.)
Last season: 14-0, CIF Open Division state champion
Coach: Mike Alberghini
Key players: RB Devontae Butler (5-11, 185, Sr.), OG-NG Villiami Moala (6-3, 330, Jr.), OG-LB Darryl Paulo (6-2, 240, Jr.), DE-OG Puka Lopa (6-2, 250, Jr.), QB Glen Deary (5-11, 170, Sr.)
Outlook: The Pacers hope to keep the momentum going from 2008’s breakthrough season. Grant graduated eight scholarship players and returns only five total starters, but Alberghini is satisfied that there is still plenty of talent available to compete with nationally ranked De La Salle for one of Northern California’s top bids in a state bowl game. The running game should remain strong with the return of Butler, who had 1,980 rushing yards and 37 touchdowns last year. This year’s junior class is particularly strong featuring physical interior players Moala, Paulo, and Lopa. Deary appears to have a lock on the starting QB position after taking backup reps as a junior.
