PrepNation 101 Preseason Countdown: No. 94 South Pointe

PrepNation.com continues the most comprehensive package of preseason high school football rankings ever published. We are counting down the PrepNation 101 Preseason High School Football Rankings, from No. 101 to No. 26, leading up to the release of the official preseason National Prep Poll on August 3.

94. South Pointe (Rock Hill, S.C.)
Last season: 15-0, Class 4A/II state champion
Coach: Bobby Carroll
Key players: RB/WR/FS Raphael Ratliff (5-10, 185, Sr.), RB Quinton Darby (6-0, 218, Sr.), OL Alex Moore (6-4, 320, Sr.), OL Jacob McQueen (6-4, 260, Sr.), DL Jadeveon Clowney (6-6, 240, Jr.)
Outlook: South Pointe broke onto the national scene by winning a state title and finishing ranked No. 18 in the National Prep Poll in only the third season since the school opened. The graduation of all-state QB Stephon Gilmore (South Carolina) was a big blow, but 11 starters and both kicking specialists do return. Ratliff and Darby are a pair of offensive skill players with game-breaking talent. The offensive line has some experience and talent returning with Moore and McQueen. The defensive side of the ball is anchored by future blue chip recruit Clowney.

Jadeveon Clowney will be a big time recruit next year as a senior and already has 15 unofficial offer while both Darby and McQueen are Division I type players. That being said, South Pointe is clearly down from the 2008 team which I still say could have beaten Byrnes if they played each other. South Pointe will scrimmage Byrnes again this year will have a tough game versus Independence early, but luckily the game is at South Pointe's home field.

I know that PrepNation has South Carolina teams Byrnes, Sumter and South Pointe ranked in it's preseason top 100. However, the team that they slept on is Rock Hill (Rock Hill, SC). They will be real good and may be the fastest team in the state and that includes Byrnes.

South Pointe 24
Byrnes 19

The Stallions took the Rebels to the woodshed last night at Dixon Field in Duncan. I think some people may want to re-think their polls. Clowney DOMINATED the high powered Rebel offense with 3 sacks, 12 tackles and 3 pass knock downs. Stallions offense struggled against a good Byrnes D, but in the end, it was all South Pointe. By the way, this was a real game type scrimmage, 100 yards, 1's vs 1's for 3 qtrs, refs, clocks, etc..
