Final PrepNation National Prep Football Poll

WAUKEE, Iowa -- For the sixth time in the 32-year history of the National Prep Football Poll, the top team in Texas is also the No. 1 squad in the final national rankings of the season.

North Shore (Houston) jumped two places into the No. 1 position this week after a 41-36 win over No. 4 Duncanville in the Texas 6A Division I state final. The Mustangs came away victorious thanks to a 45-yard Hail Mary touchdown pass as time expired.

Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.) dropped one spot to No. 2 in this week’s poll. The Monarchs, who avenged their only on-the-field loss of the season and won the California Open Division state championship, fell just short of becoming the fourth team to ever win back-to-back Prep Poll titles.

This is North Shore’s third state championship in 16 years and its first undefeated season since 2003, when it finished ranked No. 2 in the National Prep Poll.

North Shore chalked up five wins against teams that were nationally or regionally ranked this season and went 16-0 in Texas’ largest classification. Even more impressively, the Mustangs outscored their opponents by a combined margin of 854-199 – that’s an average score of 53-12.

North Shore is 58-14 in five seasons with Jon Kay as its head coach.

The National Prep Football Poll is compiled by high school sports expert Jamie DeMoney of XOS Digital. The final national Top 25 and regional Top 15's follow:

About the PrepNation National Prep Poll
The PrepNation National Prep Poll is a continuation of World Feature Syndicate’s National Prep Poll, which was published and distributed to the Associated Press and other news organizations from 1987 to 2015.

The National Prep Poll is second only to the USA Today Super 25 as the longest continually published weekly high school rankings. While a product of World Features Syndicate (1987-2015), the National Prep Poll was the only high school poll distributed to newspapers and websites around the United States by the Associated Press.

Before authoring rankings for Student Sports and ESPN, National High School Sports Hall of Fame journalist Doug Huff compiled the National Prep Poll rankings from 1987 until 1999. Current author Jamie DeMoney has compiled the poll since the start of the 1999 basketball season to the present.

Among the criteria used in the weekly compilation of the National Prep Poll rankings are strength of schedule, the ability to accomplish the ultimate goal on a team's schedule (i.e. winning a championship), impact players and performers, a team's coaching and recent tradition.

About PrepNation.com
PrepNation.com was originally launched August 1, 2001 by Jamie DeMoney for the purpose of creating a permanent online home for the National Prep Poll football and boys basketball rankings.

Utterly ridiculous. You know very well that North Shore's resume is nothing close to Mater Dei's. You also know that, had Mater Dei, Bosco or IMG not played one another, that none of them would have lost. The best team in the nation is Mater Dei, followed by Bosco and IMG. All three of these teams have more than TWICE as many D1 offers as North Shore. You know that there's no way they beat any of these three teams. Nonsense like this is how you lose credibility.

I do not understand how you can rate IMG so high. They only played 8 games. If they played 14 to 16 games like other rated schools Their record could /would be different, A 14 to 16 schedule is much tougher. To be rated that high could a team go undefeated and only play 6 games?

Looks like you picked the wrong team as #1.

In "your own" final poll, "your" #1 team (North Shore) beat one nationally ranked (Top 25) team #4 Duncanville on a Hail Mary pass and one Southwest region ranked team #11 Katy. “Your” #2 team (Mater Dei) beat four nationally ranked (Top 25) teams and handed each one of them their only loss of the year: #3 St. John Bosco, #5 IMG, #12 De La Salle and #20 Corona Centennial and two West Coast region teams: #8 JSerra and #15 Mission Viejo.

Terry B is spot on. Prior to the title game Northside was crushing opponents but was only #3 because of their “strength” of schedule. Giving up 40+ points plus a Hail Mary impressed Jamie so much that he vaulted them past what he thought were the two best teams in the country for most of the season. No wonder few pay any attention to this site anymore. Let’s stop calling it a poll also. It’s merely one person’s opinion - it’s not like a group of experts got together and voted. Rankings yes, poll no. Wonder what Doug Huff would say!

If North Shore's last second prayer had not been answered would Duncanville have finished #1? [probably yes for this poll]

Should Jamie DeMoney or Zack Poff be involved any kind of sports poll or ranking?
[Definitely not, they lack logical reasoning skills!]

These 1 person polls have got to be done away with. Your number 1 team won on a hail mary. Mater Dei came back and beat the team that beat them also played a much tougher schedule. We don't truly have a clue of how good Texas teams are, they rarely play teams out of state. It's called National for a reason. To give it to a team that strictly plays state level teams is ridiculous. Mater Dei is the National Champion a committee would have made a more logical choice.
