Team of the Week
No.
3 St. John Bosco (Bellflower, Calif.) overpowered regionally ranked De La Salle
(Concord), 56-33, to win the California Open Division state championship. The
Braves, who went 5-2 against ranked teams this season, had over 350 rushing
yards in the game. It’s the second time in four years the Braves have beaten De
La Salle for the title. The Spartans have seven state championships in 12
seasons and are the only team to finish No. 1 in the National Prep Poll six
times.
Worth Noting
Lake
Travis (Austin, Texas) surged back into Top 25 after dominating No. 16 The
Woodlands, 41-13, for the Texas Class 6A Division I state championship. It was
the first state crown since 2011 for the No. 8 Cavaliers (15-1), who ended the
season on a 15-game winning streak. … The Texas 6A-II crown went to No. 4
DeSoto (16-0), which topped regionally ranked Steele (Cibolo), 38-29, for its first
football championship in school history. … No. 24 Dutch Fork (Irmo, S.C.)
completed its first ever 15-0 season and earned its second state championship with
a 28-21 win over regionally ranked Boiling Spring in the Class 5A title game. …
No. 25 Wake Forest (N.C.) also finished unbeaten for the first time after a
29-0 shutout of regionally ranked Page (Greensboro) for the Class 4AA state
crown. It was the first state title in school history for the Cougars (16-0).

About the PrepNation National Prep Poll
The PrepNation National
Prep Poll is a continuation of World Feature Syndicate’s National Prep Poll,
which was published and distributed to the Associated Press and other news
organizations from 1987 to 2015.
The National Prep Poll
is second only to the USA Today Super 25 as the longest continually published
weekly high school rankings. While a product of World Features Syndicate
(1987-2015), the National Prep Poll was the only high school poll distributed
to newspapers and websites around the United States by the Associated Press.
Before authoring
rankings for Student Sports and ESPN, National High School Sports Hall of Fame
journalist Doug Huff compiled the National Prep Poll rankings from 1987 until
1999. Current author Jamie DeMoney has compiled the poll since the start of the
1999 basketball season to the present.
Among the criteria used
in the weekly compilation of the National Prep Poll rankings are strength of
schedule, the ability to accomplish the ultimate goal on a team's schedule
(i.e. winning a championship), impact players and performers, a team's coaching
and recent tradition.
