THREE AND OUT
The top three storylines, news, notes and milestones from the week that was in high school football.

Team of the Week
Center Grove (Greenwood, Ind.) avenged its only loss of the season with a 28-7 win over then-No. 22 Warren Central (Indianapolis) in the Class 6A state quarterfinals. The win vaulted Center Grove into this week’s national rankings at No. 24 and moved the Trojans to within two wins of successfully defending last year’s 6A state crown.

Worth Noting
In the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference semifinals, regionally ranked St. John’s (Washington) avenged a loss to regionally ranked Gonzaga (Washington) from one week earlier with a 38-21 win on Saturday. The Cadets will play No. 5 DeMatha (Hyattsville, Md.) next Saturday for a chance to capture their first WCAC crown since 1989. … No. 16 McGill-Toolen needed an 85-yard pass play for a touchdown with a little over a minute left to play to salvage a 27-23 win over Enterprise in a Class 7A second-round playoff game. … No. 17 Cass Tech (Detroit) advanced to the Division 1 state semifinals after edging then-unbeaten Saline, 43-42.

For the Record
No. 18 East (Salt Lake City) set a pair of Utah state season yardage records in its 64-13 rout of Maple Mountain (Spanish Fork) in the 4A state semifinals. East posted 644 rushing yards in the game to become the first team in Utah history to ever eclipse 6,000 rushing yards in a season. The Leopards are also the first team in state history to total more than 7,000 yards of total offense. … Senior Bobby Maimaron of regionally ranked Duxbury (Mass.) become the all-time leader in passing touchdowns for his state during a 26-19 win over North Attleborough. Maimaron threw three touchdowns in the game to increase his career total to 115. … Lowndes (Valdosta, Ga.) swamped Hillgrove (Powder Springs), 92-61, in a Class 7A playoff game. The 153 total points set a new state record.

About the PrepNation National Prep Poll
The PrepNation National Prep Poll is a continuation of World Feature Syndicate’s National Prep Poll, which was published and distributed to the Associated Press and other news organizations from 1987 to 2015.

The National Prep Poll is second only to the USA Today Super 25 as the longest continually published weekly high school rankings. While a product of World Features Syndicate (1987-2015), the National Prep Poll was the only high school poll distributed to newspapers and websites around the United States by the Associated Press.

Before authoring rankings for Student Sports and ESPN, National High School Sports Hall of Fame journalist Doug Huff compiled the National Prep Poll rankings from 1987 until 1999. Current author Jamie DeMoney has compiled the poll since the start of the 1999 basketball season to the present.

Among the criteria used in the weekly compilation of the National Prep Poll rankings are strength of schedule, the ability to accomplish the ultimate goal on a team's schedule (i.e. winning a championship), impact players and performers, a team's coaching and recent tradition.
