Storylines
Then-No.
7 Findlay Prep (Nev.) suffered its first loss of the season when was beaten by crosstown rival Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas), 77-71, at the Big City Showdown. Bishop Gorman’s
Charles O’Bannon Jr. led all scorers with 25 points. The loss dropped Findlay
five spots to No. 12 this week while Bishop Gorman returned to the regional
rankings.
The lone
meeting of Top 25 teams last week was No. 21 Gonzaga’s 73-70 road upset over No. 6 DeMatha (Md.) in a key Washington Catholic Athletic Conference showdown.
Junior point guard Chris Lykes paced Gonzaga with 30 points.
No. 25
Neumann-Goretti (Philadelphia) returned to the national poll after a week that
included a 98-75 win over regionally ranked Archbishop Carroll (Pa.). Four star

Feats
Five-star
junior DeAndre Ayton posted a jaw-dropping triple-double as Hillcrest Prep (Phoenix)
knocked off then-regionally ranked Sunrise Christian (Kan.), 71-67. Ayton, a
seven-footer, finished the game with 52 points, 33 rebounds, and 10 blocks.
Freshman
B.J. Burries exploded for 68 points to lead Globe (Ariz.) to a 105-103 double-overtime win over Florence. Burries’ outburst was seven points shy of the
state record of 75 points set nearly 50 years ago.
Lake
Mills (Iowa) junior Charlie Dugger tied a state record when he drained 13
3-pointers in his team’s 82-61 blowout of Northwood-Kensett. All 39 of Dugger’s
points in the game came from beyond the arc.

About the
PrepNation National Prep Poll
The
PrepNation National Prep Poll is a continuation of World Feature Syndicate’s
National Prep Poll, which was published and distributed to the Associated Press
and other news organizations from 1987 to 2015.
The
National Prep Poll is second only to the USA Today Super 25 as the longest
continually published weekly high school rankings. While a product of World
Features Syndicate (1987-2015), the National Prep Poll was the only high school
poll distributed to newspapers and websites around the United States by the
Associated Press.
Before
authoring rankings for Student Sports and ESPN, National High School Sports
Hall of Fame journalist Doug Huff compiled the National Prep Poll rankings from
1987 until 1999. Current author Jamie DeMoney has compiled the poll since the
start of the 1999 basketball season to the present.
Among the
criteria used in the weekly compilation of the National Prep Poll rankings are
strength of schedule, the ability to accomplish the ultimate goal on a team's
schedule (i.e. winning a championship), impact players and performers, a team's
coaching and recent tradition.
