Week 3 National Prep Basketball Poll released

WAUKEE, Iowa -- Seven-time National Prep Poll champion Oak Hill (Va.) make a four-spot jump in the third weekly rankings of the season. The Warriors (14-0) are fresh off a 68-66 win over No. 11 Our Savior New American (N.Y.). They have a chance to strengthen their resume further the next two weeks with a in-state battle against Paul VI (Va.) followed by a trip to the Iolani Classic in Honolulu.

     FEATS OF THE WEEK: No. 1 Montverde, Fla., Montverde Academy picked up the first of what could be many wins over ranked opponents this season. Senior forward Ben Simmons (an LSU recruit) scored 23 points as the Eagles flew past No. 14 Plano, Texas, West, 68-51, at the Buckeye Elite National Showcase in Huntington, W.Va. Next up for Montverde Academy is a date with No. 2 Bishop O’Dowd on Saturday, followed by the City of Palms Classic in Fort Myers, Fla. against a bracket that features 11 teams in this week’s national and regional rankings. ... At the Marshall County Hoopfest in Benton, Ky., No. 3 Mount of Wilson, Va., Oak Hill got a game-high 20 points from senior forward Dwayne Bacon (Florida St.) in a 68-66 win over No. 11 Centereach, N.Y., Our Savior New American. ... Highly-touted junior forward M.J. Cage had 18 points, 14 rebounds, and four blocks in No. 4 Santa, Ana, Calif., Mater Dei’s season-opening 88-32 blowout of Goleta, Calif., Dos Pueblos. ... Blue chip senior forward Jaylen Brown (uncommitted) scored 34 points with 23 rebounds to help No. 9 Marietta, Ga., Wheeler crush Marietta, Ga., Walton, 97-61. ... Senior forward Ed Morrow (Nebraska) scored 22 points to lead No. 16 Chicago, Simeon to an 87-72 win over regionally-ranked Lancaster, Texas, at the Chicago Elite Classic. ... Among the criteria used in the weekly compilation of the National Prep Poll rankings are strength of schedule, the ability to accomplish the ultimate goal on a team's schedule (i.e. winning a championship), impact players and performers, a team's coaching and recent tradition.
