Final (Week 19) National Prep Football Poll released

WAUKEE, Iowa -- For the first time in the 28-year history of the National Prep Football Poll, the No. 1 team in the final rankings hails from the state of Nevada. Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas) held on to the top spot for the 13th consecutive week, followed closely behind by three-time defending Texas champion Allen at No. 2 and six-time Prep Poll titlist De La Salle (Concord, Calif.) at No. 3. The Gaels join Findlay Prep (Henderson) as Nevada's only mythical national champions in high school sports. Findlay claimed the National Prep Basketball Poll title in 2009.

FEATS OF THE WEEK: For the first time in the 28-year history of the National Prep Poll, the No. 1 team in the final football rankings is from Nevada. Las Vegas, Bishop Gorman -- which held the top spot the final 13 weeks of the season -- closed the deal with a 15-0 record against a schedule that included six quality out-of-state opponents, including three that finished the year in the Top 25. In their nine games against Nevada competition, the Gaels won by an average margin of 54 points and captured their sixth straight large-school state title. It was the final year at the helm for coach Tony Sanchez, who went 85-5 in six seasons at Bishop Gorman. Sanchez, 40, is making the jump to the college ranks as UNLV’s head coach next season. ... A crowd of 52,308 was on hand at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, to see No. 2 Allen, Texas, thump Cypress, Texas, Cypress Ranch, 47-16, for the Class 6A Division I championship -- the Eagles’ third state title in a row. Senior quarterback Kyler Murray (a Texas A&M commit) threw for 317 yards and five touchdowns as Allen ended the year with a 43-game winning streak. ... No. 3 Concord, Calif., De La Salle added its sixth state title in the last eight years with a 63-42 win over No. 12 Corona, Calif., Centennial. As a team, De La Salle rushed for 448 yards and seven touchdowns. Centennial is the first team to score 40 or more points against De La Salle in the last 35 seasons.

Compiled weekly weekly since 1987 and distributed by World Features Syndicate and the Associated Press, the National Prep Poll is the nation's second oldest weekly high school sports rankings. Doug Huff compiled the rankings from 1987 until 1999. Jamie DeMoney has compiled the poll since the start of the 1999 basketball season to the present.

PrepNation.com was originally launched August 1, 2001 by Jamie DeMoney for the purpose of creating a permanent online home for the National Prep Poll football and boys basketball rankings.

The National Prep Poll is the only high school poll distributed to newspapers and websites around the United States by the Associated Press.

Among the criteria used in the weekly compilation of the National Prep Poll rankings are strength of schedule, the ability to accomplish the ultimate goal on a team's schedule (i.e. winning a championship), impact players and performers, a team's coaching and recent tradition.

Will the Bingham vs BTW game on Sunday be factored into your ratings? Bishop Gorman went into OT agains them. I could se an underwhelming Bingham performance impacting the final polls.

Utah not playing for 6 weeks with starting quarterback sidelined since semifinal playoff game with severe injury and Utah traveling 3000 miles causing little fan support for an otherwise "home" game for Washington should impact who? BG had fluke fumble with a min to go in that game on a kneel down that caused game to eventually go into OT which they still won. Bingham used 3 fake punt conversions for first downs and 4 additional trick plays that kept game close. BG started sophomore QB in his first full start and he endured many first game flubs including the fumble. Bingham great team but the better team BG won that game. Regardless of score by 3 or 30..4 starters from BG including OL didn't play

Folsom is better than both Moultrie and Lakewood. There's no way you can have a 2 loss team in the top 10 either, unless they lost to 2 teams in the top 10 by 1 point or in overtime. Your ranking don't matter.

The Burger King Bowl Series games were not figured into the final rankings.
