FEATS OF THE WEEK: Defending Prep Poll titlist Montverde, Fla., Montverde
Academy returned to the No. 1 spot in this week’s Top 25. The Eagles moved up
from No. 2 following a 91-56 blowout of Deerfield Beach, Fla. Junior forward
Ben Simmons (committed to LSU) scored a game-high 27 points. ... Dallas, Prime
Prep jumped up three spots to No. 4 after a convincing 67-50 win over No. 12
Winston-Salem, N.C., Quality Education at the Marshall County Hoopfest in
Benton, Ky. Senior guard Emmanuel Mudiay (SMU) was the star, scoring 17 points
and grabbing 11 rebounds. ... Senior forward Cliff Alexander (Kansas) had 22
points, 20 rebounds and five blocks to carry No. 6 Chicago, Curie to a 66-62
win over No. 9 Las Vegas, Bishop Gorman. Stephen Zimmerman, Bishop Gorman’s
highly-routed 7-foot junior, was held to 10 points with 13 rebounds. ... Blue
chip junior forward Jaylen Brown scored 22 points to lead No. 7 Marietta, Ga.,
Wheeler to a 63-52 win against No. 19 Lithonia, Ga., Miller Grove. ... In a showdown
of last season’s state champs, defending 4A titlist and 11th-ranked
Apple Valley, Minn., topped reigning 3A champion No. 24 Minneapolis, De La
Salle, 73-63. Apple Valley senior guard Tyus Jones (Duke) exploded for 29
points with 11 assists. De La Salle was without senior forward Reid Travis
(Stanford), who is recovering from an injured foot.

Among the criteria used in the weekly compilation of the National Prep Poll rankings are strength of schedule, the ability to accomplish the ultimate goal on a team's schedule (i.e. winning a championship), impact players and performers, a team's coaching and recent tradition.
