FEATS OF THE WEEK: Regionally-ranked Aledo, Texas, is the new national single-season
record holder for scoring with 985 points. It took only 14 games for the
Bearcats to break the previous mark of 903 points, set in 16 games by
Albemarle, N.C., in 2001. Aledo surpassed it during a 69-14 rout over Wichita
Falls, Texas, and an added to their total with a 29-6 triumph against Ennis,
Texas, in Class 4A/II playoff games last week. With one game left to play this
season, Aledo could easily exceed the 1,000-point barrier. ... No. 23 Buford,
Ga., downed Sandersville, Ga., Washington County, 35-19, for its second
straight Class 3A crown and sixth title in the last seven years. The Wolves
(15-0) finished the year with 707 points, a new state record. ... Regionally-ranked
Ansonia, Conn., hammered Beacon Falls, Conn., Woodland, 51-12, for its third
consecutive Class S state title and 43rd straight win. Senior Arkeel
Newsome (a UConn commit) scored five touchdowns and ran for 259 yards,
increasing his state-record total to 10,672. ... Regionally-ranked Lafayette,
La., Acadiana ran past Bossier City, La., Parkway, 77-41, to win its second 5A
state crown in four years. The Rams amassed a finals-record 634 rushing yards
in the game. ... Preseason-No. 1 Miami, Central finished the year with an
emphatic 52-7 blowout of previously-unbeaten Seffner, Fla., Armwood for its
second consecutive 6A state crown. Senior Dalvin Cook (Florida) led the now-No.
6 Rockets with 223 rushing yards and four touchdowns. Central’s only loss this
season was to No. 1 Miami, Booker T. Washington.

About the National Prep Poll: Compiled weekly weekly since 1987 and distributed by World Features Syndicate and the Associated Press, the National Prep Poll is the nation's second oldest weekly high school sports rankings. Doug Huff compiled the rankings from 1987 until 1999. Jamie DeMoney has compiled the poll since the start of the 1999 basketball season to the present.
The National Prep Poll is the only high school poll distributed to newspapers and websites around the United States by the Associated Press national wire service.
Among the criteria used in the weekly compilation of the National Prep Poll rankings are strength of schedule, the ability to accomplish the ultimate goal on a team's schedule (i.e. winning a championship), impact players and performers, a team's coaching and recent tradition.
About PrepNation.com: PrepNation.com was originally launched August 1, 2001 by Jamie DeMoney for the purpose of creating a permanent online home for the National Prep Poll football and boys basketball rankings.
