FEATS OF THE WEEK: For
the fourth time in the past eight seasons, the No. 1 team in the final National
Prep Poll is from Florida. Top-ranked Miami, Booker T. Washington accomplished
the feat with a 14-0 record that included four wins over current or former Top
25 teams. The Tornadoes outscored opponents by a combined 579-138 en route to
their second consecutive Class 4A state title. ... A crowd of 54,347 – the
largest in Texas prep history – was on hand at AT&T Stadium to watch No. 2
Allen, Texas, capture its second straight 5A/I state crown. Junior quarterback
Kyler Murray accounted for 468 total yards and five touchdowns as the Eagles
routed Pearland, Texas, 63-28. ... Bellflower, Calif., St. John Bosco finished
the year ranked No. 3 after winning its first Open Division state title. The
Braves beat No. 5 Concord, Calif., De La Salle, 20-14, snapping the Spartans’
40-game winning streak and thwarting their attempt to win five consecutive
state championships. ... Regionally-ranked Aledo, Texas, ended the
highest-scoring season in high school football history with a 38-10 blowout of
Brenham, Texas, for the 4A/II championship. The Bearcats totaled a record 1,023

About the National Prep Poll: Compiled weekly weekly since 1987 and distributed by World Features Syndicate and the Associated Press, the National Prep Poll is the nation's second oldest weekly high school sports rankings. Doug Huff compiled the rankings from 1987 until 1999. Jamie DeMoney has compiled the poll since the start of the 1999 basketball season to the present.
The National Prep Poll is the only high school poll distributed to newspapers and websites around the United States by the Associated Press national wire service.
Among the criteria used in the weekly compilation of the National Prep Poll rankings are strength of schedule, the ability to accomplish the ultimate goal on a team's schedule (i.e. winning a championship), impact players and performers, a team's coaching and recent tradition.
About PrepNation.com: PrepNation.com was originally launched August 1, 2001 by Jamie DeMoney for the purpose of creating a permanent online home for the National Prep Poll football and boys basketball rankings.
